Waycon Manufacturing Ltd., a specialty metal fabricator that designs and manufactures heavy-duty equipment, machinery, custom parts and hydraulic systems for the forestry and clean energy sectors, is thrilled to have been awarded $575,000 from the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund (BCMJF).
“This funding is a significant milestone for us, as it provides an exciting opportunity for growth and improvement, aligning with our ambitious plans of providing our customers with a complete turnkey solution,” said John O’Connell, President of Waycon Manufacturing Ltd.
With an investment of over $2.5 million this year, Waycon Manufacturing Ltd. is further enhancing its in-house capabilities. As one of the largest machine shops in the province, the company will utilize this funding to drive advanced manufacturing, solidifying its commitment to serving customers and fostering local economic growth.
With the additional resources, Waycon Manufacturing Ltd. will create 12 career positions, expanding its skilled workforce with top talent in welding, fabrication and CNC machining.
This project will also increase the training and skills development opportunities for our employees, such as cross-training and apprenticeship opportunities, creating job security, and supporting the skilled trades.
Waycon Manufacturing Ltd. will purchase new state-of-the-art machinery, including Doosan Puma 5100, Doosan DBC-110 and cranes, to diversify its product offerings and increase project turnaround time, quality and capabilities. Additionally, the Penticton-based company will expand its floor space by 5,000 square feet, bringing the facility to 40,000 square feet on 2.5 acres.
“This investment will enhance our capabilities for precise machining of large weldments and intricate pieces up to 22,000 lbs, allowing us to handle the most complex jobs,” O’Connell said. “This empowers us to serve customers in prototyping and heavy equipment manufacturing, leveraging our engineering expertise for superior quality and faster turnaround. It also strengthens our commitment to creating skilled manufacturing jobs in the South Okanagan, allowing us to drive economic growth in British Columbia and contribute to our community’s development.”
Due to enhanced in-house capabilities, Waycon Manufacturing Ltd. will be able to further improve design for manufacturability and accommodate customized projects for industrial processing, food processing, mining, power and utility, automation and robotics, and other industries.
The BCMJF was established to help manufacturing companies, particularly those supporting the forestry sector, modernize, innovate and grow. By investing up to $180 million in manufacturing projects throughout the province, the program aims to contribute to clean, inclusive growth and economic resilience, as well as boost productivity, strengthen supply chains and drive competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
“We are incredibly grateful for the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund’s support of our vision and for our customers’ continued trust in Waycon Manufacturing Ltd.,” O’Connell added. “Thank you for being a part of our journey and for choosing Waycon for your complex manufacturing needs. We look forward to continuing to serve you with enhanced capabilities, engineering support and dedication.”
